French Dressing

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 16
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 1 tablespoon celery seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring (to spiced it up )
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh chives

Recipe

  • 1 1. in a one quart jar, combine sugar, ketchup, oil, garlic, vinegar, hot sauce, celery seed, liquid smoke and chives. cover and shake well. refrigerate until serving.
  • 2 my update note: i would cut down on the oil just slightly. i tried a few variations: for the vinegar i used half rice vinegar and half balsamic. i also used brown sugar for more flavor and a thicker texture. no liquid smoke? try a splash of worstershire.
  • 3 it was so good that we served it on a salad after only being chilled for about 15 minutes. i had not fresh chives so i used dry chives. it worked great. the pepper sauce gave it a "gently" spiced flavor, somewhat tangy!
